Singer Songwriter Finalist Competition at The Acorn Theater
Last night I had the distinct honor of taking part in a songwriting contest at The Acorn Theater in Three Oaks, MI. There were almost 80 entries and I was selected as one of the eleven finalists to compete last night. There were a panel of seasoned judges who critiqued us, American Idol style. The most well-known of the judges was Jim Peterik who has written for and performed with Survivor, The Ides of March, and 38 Special to name a few. He started the show playing acoustic versions of several of his hits including “Eye of the Tiger”, “Hold On Loosely”, “Caught Up in You”, “Burning Heart”, etc. His performance was out of this world and set the tone for the rest of the talent to perform that night. The place was packed and I was nervous to play for such an intent crowd, in front of the panel of judges, and among some of the best talent I’ve seen on stage. I performed my story song “When a Gun Goes Off” and did a superb job. The judges all had good things to say, which made me feel relieved and accomplished at the same time. The judges selected the top three acts and then the audience voted on the final winner. Although I was not one of the final three, I had one of the best nights of music I have had in a while and will soon not forget.
